| Searches can be done in most types of weather, at any time, day or night, in the woods, in open fields, heavy brush, disasters caused by earthquakes, floods, tornados and any other disaster. All humans, dead or alive, shed microscopic particles called RAFTS that bear their own individual unique scents. This scent is constantly being shed at a rate of 40,000 per minute. Each raft is made up af bacteria and vapors which make up the unique scent. These rafts can be picked up by the wind and carried. They can dispersed in a conelike shape that narrows and concentrates closer to its source. The different terrain and wind currents can have major impacts on the scent and each search will create its own problems. Air Scenting Dogs These dogs are trained to Iocate any human scent in a specific area. They don't always need a scent article and can work areas where other searches are or have been. They will work with their noses either in the air or near the ground depending on where the scent is. There are no limits on time or weather restriction. The dogs can work on or off lead. These dogs are trained to locate and scent in the actual footprints of a victim and follow them step by step. They use a specific scent given off by a scent article. Weather conditions effect the tracking and in certain conditions the track may not last long. These dogs work on lead and in areas with no other searchers. These dogs don't actually work step by step but will trail only a few feet from the track. They also need a scent article and have the same limitations as Tracking Dog, but can work off lead |
